14—Future Hope, Lesson 6B

Hope Because of Christmas!

We have hope every day because of what God did for us in sending His Son! Let’s live in the hope and joy of Christmas every day!

What has been your biggest takeaway in our class together?

Would you be interested in going on a Bible reading journey with me next year?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Happy New Year!

13—Present Help, Lesson 6A

When You Don’t Know How to Pray

Our weakness does not stop God from using our prayers! When we are confused, when we don’t know how to pray, the Spirit still intercedes for us! Let’s talk about that and check in with one another today!

Where are you at in the study? How is it going?

• What has been your biggest takeaway so far?

Looking forward to hearing from you when you have a moment.

12—The Nitty Gritty, Lesson 5B

Sometimes We Trip

Let’s face it. Even when we’re regularly walking by the Spirit, there are times we trip up . . . and there are times others trip up, too.

Is there anyone you need to extend forgiveness to today? Think about it, but don’t feel like you need to write a response here.

What has been your biggest takeaway from the lesson this week or from the study so far?

Remember, keep your comments short today and celebrate the gift of Jesus with your family and friends!!

Love to you all . . . Merry Christmas!

11—Living by the Spirit Today, Lesson 5A

Powered by the Spirit!

When the pressures of life close in, we have the perfect opportunity to let our light shine before men so that they see our good works and glorify our Father who is in heaven! (Matthew 5:16) Here’s the question to get our discussion started today:

• How do you intentionally walk by the Spirit in order to put to death the deeds of the flesh? What passages of Scripture do you find most helpful for this?

Looking forward to hearing your response to this question and to hearing what your biggest application point has been in the class so far!

Keep flexing!

10—Sovereign or Responsible? Yes! Lesson 4B

One of the Mysteries!

The longer that I walk with God, the more comfortable I am with mystery. I don’t have to have all the answers if I know that He does!

In addition to any major takeaways that you’ve had from this section of the lesson, let’s also talk about these questions this week:

How does knowing that you’ve been chosen in Christ comfort you during difficult or trying times?

If you’re not sure that you are in Christ, what is holding you back from following Jesus today?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Tip #5: Use PDFs and Erasable Pens

Just Mark Something

Perfectionism is an enemy of learning. If you want to learn how to mark the text of Scripture, you need to start actually marking the text. You won’t do it entirely to your own liking at the beginning, but that is all part of the learning process.

Don’t fret. Relax. Print out a few copies of the PDF and get marking!

Romans 8 PDF in NASB

Keep flexing!

09—Slaves to Sons, Lesson 4A

Everyone needs an Abba. Let’s discuss that today . . .

How do you typically think of God? Do you think of Him as your loving Abba? If so, what difference does that make? If you don’t usually think of Him that way, what difference do you think remembering that more often could make?

What was your biggest takeaway from the lesson this week?

Remember, wherever you’re at in the study, just keep moving forward. No one’s ahead, no one’s behind . . . we’re all flexing!

Love ya,

pam :)

08—Freed! Lesson 3B

Freed from Sin, Freed to Love!

While death is an enemy of mankind, Jesus broke its power at the cross! He freed us from the law of sin and of death (Romans 8) and He set us free from slavery to the fear of death (Hebrews 2). Now we are slaves to righteousness and freed to walk by the Spirit in love. Let’s talk about that today! Here is a question to get our discussion started:

• How can you practically love your neighbor this Christmas season?

See you on the blog . . . and remember to let the study flex. Keep it going a little at a time. If you do decide to do an extended portion all at once, go ahead and treat yourself to a nice big latte! Seriously! :)

07—God Did! Lesson 3A

The Law Couldn’t, but God Did!

Well, here we sit—a few days post-Thanksgiving and a few days before December. Are you holding up? Are you letting the study flex? Are you staying engaged?

If you’re struggling, I want to encourage you to jump back into the study today. You can pick up where you left off or simply join us where we’re at the beginning of Lesson 3.

I’m going to slow Lesson 3 down a little bit to allow us all to regroup after Thanksgiving, so look for the remaining videos on Lesson 3 no earlier than next Monday, December 3 and Thursday, December 6. I’ll probably post a couple more tips during the week and may even do a Facebook Live from the Precept Encounter Student Conference this weekend depending on how I’m holding up after the drive down. We’ll see!

I look forward to discussing the following question this week:

How have you seen the power of God at work in your life as you walk by the Spirit?

Would sure appreciate your prayers this weekend as I’m doing a roundtrip to Chattanooga by car starting from north of Chicago. Heading down on Friday and back on Sunday with sketchy weather in the forecast!

Thanks in advance!

06—Denying Reality Doesn't Change Reality! Lesson 2B

Sin and Death are Realities . . . Jesus is the Only Answer!

In our broken and fallen world, the intruders of sin and death are realities whether we like it or not! Even though our culture tries to tamp down the pain of death by saying it just part of life, we know deep within our souls that death is an enemy. It’s only in Jesus that we have hope! Let’s talk about that today . . .

What would change in the way you live and interact with people if you truly believed that death is an enemy?

What was your biggest takeaway from Lesson 2? How is it changing the way you think and act?

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

pam :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

What about God’s Word are you thankful for today?

I’m thankful for so many things today, but one that stands out is this: I’m thankful that I will never be able to exhaust the Word of God! There will always be more to discover; there will always be more to learn; there will always be more to apply!

What about God’s Word are you thankful for today?

Happy Thanksgiving!

05—Who Will You Trust? Lesson 2A

God Has Clearly Spoken!

Although God gave Adam and Eve clear commands, they listened to another voice that called His goodness into question. Let’s talk about that today and about how it relates to us:

What wrong sources are you too quick to trust?

What sound sources do you discount too quickly?

I look forward to our discussion, but also want to remind you to let the study flex as you spend time with family and friends over this Thanksgiving week!

04—Created in the Image of God, Lesson 1D

And It Was Very Good!

“God saw all that He had made, and behold,
it was very good.
And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.”

—Genesis 1:31, NASB

When God created the world and all that is in it, what He made was good, it was very good! There was nothing wrong or flawed with it. As we’ll see in our next session, sin and death entered the world when man disobeyed.

In the midst of all of the good creation that God called into existence, He singled out human beings and created them in His own image! Every single person today bears the image of God although marred by sin. So here’s our question:

How does knowing that every person is created in the image of God affect the way you view and treat people?

As you interact with this question, don’t forget to encourage your classmates as you read their responses, too.

Upcoming Schedule
With Thanksgiving coming up this week, I’ll only be posting two short videos on Lesson 2—I think this will be good for all of us! Flexibility, right?

The first video will cover workbook pages 19–28 (I’ll likely post this on Tuesday). The second will cover pages 31–39 (watch for that around Saturday). I hope you don’t mind flexing with me on post dates. I have my daughter and three of her college friends here over the holidays, so life at the Gillaspie household is going to be hopping!

I look forward to hearing from you all soon!

03—The Flesh and the Spirit, Lesson 1C

The Normal Christian Life

As we discuss Mindset pages 7–11, let’s consider the following questions:

If there are people in our lives who don’t know God and can’t submit to His law or please Him, what should our disposition be toward them when they act in ungodly ways? (Before you answer, read Romans 5:8-10.)

What is the most appealing part of walking “according to the Spirit” as far as you’re concerned?

I’ll be posting one more video on Lesson 1 this week, so when you’re ready move on along to pages 12–17.

Look forward to talking with you all soon!
